Advanced Coursework

This letter outlines the valuable opportunities and advantages available to your child through our advanced coursework programs. While these courses challenge students to master higher-level skills and competencies, they also offer significant long-term benefits. Participation can boost a student’s self-confidence, demonstrate their readiness for college-level rigor, and allow them to earn college credits early — ultimately saving both time and money on future higher education.

Middle and high school students at Broadalbin-Perth have access to a variety of advanced learning opportunities. Detailed course lists are available from school counselors, and specific options will be reviewed each spring and during annual selection meetings. To be eligible, students should focus on building a strong foundation through regular attendance, consistent effort both in and out of class, and active engagement in their learning. A sincere interest in the discipline and the willingness to collaborate with teachers are also essential for enrollment.

Success in advanced courses is a partnership, and the district has resources to provide the necessary academic and social support. As families plan, they should take a thoughtful approach to course selection that prioritizes the student’s passions rather than a high volume of advanced classes. By focusing on areas of strength and interest while avoiding overscheduling, students are better positioned to excel without becoming overwhelmed.

Questions about advanced coursework and individual student participation should be directed to the student's school counselor. School counselors can also provide information on financial support for college-level courses. Parents are always welcome to attend their children’s course selection meetings.
